Breakaway Strategic Consulting is operated by Ryan Bates
from Ann Arbor, Michigan. After 20 years as an organizer,
campaign manager, and progressive leader, Ryan has the
experience to help you tackle big problems.
Ryan is the founder and former exuective director of
Michigan United and Michigan People's Campaign.
When the organization started, Ryan was it's sole
employee,working out of the trunk of his car. 12 years
later, the organizations had grown to 35 staff, a budget
of $5 million, with offices in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint and Kalamazoo-- the largest community organizing group in the state. There, he helped lead major successful campaigns for immigrants rights, criminal justice reform, the environment, affordable health care, housing, and workers rights.
Prior to Michigan United, Ryan spent two cycles with the Michigan House Democrats, where he ran successful state house races all across the state.
